Bio
Alexander, or Alex as he is usually called, has no surname. This is mainly because any records of his parents, if they existed, have yet to be found. Alex was found as an infant by a wise old magician named Caulus Zalridge, and was raised by the combat arts of magic. Being brought up like this, Alex was well-versed in a magic fight. However, he's not perfect. Sometimes he mis-casts a spell above his level, leaving him wide open for attack. After Zalridge died from old age, Alex went into a deep depression for several months, nearly getting killed several times from wandering into the middle of a war zone. Alex fought off the surrounding forces with a small bag of runes that Zalridge gave him just before he died. It was at this point Alex knew what he had to do to solve his issues. He had to become a mercenary.
Alex soon found plenty of work as a hired gun. Almost every affiliation that could afford him wanted him on their side. Alex took advantage of this and intentionally kept the forces fighting each other so he could make as much money as possible. Of course, he covered his tracks so that no signs of prolonged conflict could be tracked back to him. Alex soon took a temporary retirement from the battlefront and moved up into the mountainous Glacia Commonwealth, whose capital was Glacia City. Alex used his amazing funds to purchase a residence complete with his very own workshop from a failing competing blacksmith.
Twili Form
In the first post of Chapter 12 it was seen that Alex has a side of him that has remained dormant for twenty-eight years; his Twili side. The Twili are an ancient race that live in the Twilight, a remote section of the Borderworld. Twili are known for their adeptness in the magical arts as well as preference for the twilight, as opposed to broad daylight. For whatever reason, Alex's Twili side became active after he was bitten by a headcrab at the end of Chapter 11. As soon as the sun set, Alex was forcibly transformed into a Twili, and will remain in this form until the sun rises again. A little into Chapter 12, it was revealed to him that he was the Twilight Warrior, the Twili destined to assist the Twilight Princess (in this case, Midna) in bringing balance to the greater evil. Alex, in his Twili form, has pale bluish skin with glowing green marks covering parts of his limbs, and one around his left eye. He wears the traditional robes of the Twilight Warrior, being an article of clothing draped over his right shoulder, leaving his left chest exposed, the robe itself having green stripes running down it diagonally as well as across the sleeve, and simple black pants. Around his neck and on his wrists he wears some mysterious type of bauble or jewelry, made of stone with Twili patterns on it. The purpose of these trinkets as of now is unknown.
The Shroud
First encountered at the Nightshade temple, the Shroud is a timeless force that is merely what its host wants it to be. The last to wield it, called "the Bearer", who, incidentally, was a Twilight Warrior, succumbed to the Shroud's control because he was afraid of it, and through his fear, unknowingly willed it to be a curse. The Shroud itself fears control by its host, and a mutual peace can be reached if both sides overcome their fears. Alex, who originally feared the Shroud, forced it to overcome its fear of control before willing it to be a gift, rather than a curse. Through this, Alex was imbued in the Shroud's power, free of its dark influence. The Shroud itself is sentient, and will often speak to its Bearer inside his or her mind. Alex cannot manifest the Shroud in bright light or while wearing thick armor.
Abilities
Aside from being well-verse in armed combat, his awakened Twili side and manifestation of the Shroud have opened magical and supernatural abilities to him. Each has different abilities available to him that vary widely.
Twili Form
- Transformation: The spell that allows him to switch between his human and Twili form, thus making the other spells available for his use.
- Illuminator: A simple focused light beam that can ignite objects and enemies.
- Entangler: A dark burst that has a chilling effect on objects, as well as paralyzing enemies briefly.
- Solburst: A light magic spell that creates a large ball of pure white light, exploding it on the target, which may also ignite flammable materials.
- Umbraburst: A dark spell that rips open a dimensional seam to the Borderworld and pulls the target in, thrusting it into the deadly void.
- Parasite: A spell that can siphon off an enemy's life force and add it to Alex's own. The power can also work in reverse, such as for healing a wounded ally, but at the expense of Alex's health.
- Aura of the Juggernaut: Meant to be used as a last resort, a spell that causes Alex to fly into a blind fury, severely limiting his cognitive abilities, limited to distinguishing friend from foe, but imbues him with superhuman strength and durability. However, it takes its toll on him. When the spell is deactivated, he will fall into a deep coma equal to the time the spell was active.
The Shroud
- Manifestation: This calls the Shroud to Alex, which surrounds him with black tentacles and two sentient serpent creatures, called Demon Heads, which have mouths filled with razor sharp teeth.
- Shrouded Eye: Manifesting the Shroud allows Alex to see with ease in the dark.
- Creeping Dark: One of the Demon Heads receives Alex's consciousness, granting him the ability to control it from outside his body. This Demon Head can then be used as a scout, or to reach small places Alex himself could not reach. The Demon Head can also attack with its bite. Energy is drained for as long as the head is used for this purpose.
- Demon Arm: A tentacle lashes out, slashing or impaling Alex's target of choice. It can also be used to move heavy objects out of the way. Energy is drained for as long as the tentacle holds something.
- Black Hole: A powerful burst of gravity combined with dark energy can be used to pull Alex's enemies into a swirling vortex, killing them by flinging them around. It can also destroy structurally weak objects. All energy is used in this attack, so more must be drained from the dark. The black hole will remain active for a certain amount of time, depending on the amount of energy Alex has at the time.
- Drain Darkness: All Shroud powers are fueled by dark energy, which the two Demon Heads can drain from anywhere absent of light. Alex will lose dark energy, however, if the Shroud is manifested and he is standing in a brightly lit area. If an area is bright enough (daytime for example), the Shroud cannot even be manifested.
While Alex has not yet experimented with combining Twili and Shroud abilities, it can be assumed that dark Twili abilities can amplify the Shroud, while light powers weaken it.
Equipment
On some occasions, such as during armed combat, Alex may use various pieces of equipment or weapons in conjunction with his powers.
- Asgarnian Energy Rifle: A standard-issue Asgarnian weapon, the rifle fires an electrical burst that directly targets the opponent's nervous system, crippling or killing them, depending on the weapon's setting. While powerful, care must be taken to prevent overheating from firing the weapon too often.
- Personal Combat Suit (P.C.S): Alex's durable armor, designed by Asgarnian scientists. Powered by the traditional Asgarnian magic fusion process, it can provide a good degree of defense before signs of fatigue begin to show. However, the suit itself is heavy and is cumbersome to move around in when underwater. White magic packets, automatically signaled when Alex is injured, will provide some relief from injuries sustained in battle.
- Twili Armor: A magical pendant given to Alex by Twili Elder Equinox. When pressed into the P.C.S.'s chestplate, the Twilight Warrior's traditional armor takes the suit over, greatly amplifying Alex's latent Twili abilities, as well as his maneuverability. The armor has magic-powered jets on the back that can be used to jump great distances and even fly for a short time.
- Shadeblade: The Twilight Warrior's primary weapon, given to Alex by Equinox. The actual abilities of the blade are as of yet unknown, but it is known that only the Twilight Warrior has the strength and power to wield it.
- Experimental Telekinesis Device: An Asgarnian prototype, its original intent was to magnify a person's inherent telekinetic abilities, allowing the device to lift and move heavy or dangerous objects. Alex, however, found a better use for the device, turning it into a weapon by launching the lifted objects at high speeds towards the enemy, turning anything the device could pick up into potential ammunition. Alex may have forgotten about the device, or simply left it in the hands of Isaac Kleiner.
Chapter 9
Alex decides to leave his hometown of Glacia City, to the highly-advanced city of Asgarnia. Unfortunately, this requires an arduous trek down the Glacia Mountains. While on his way down, Alex has an encounter with a shady character (Kronos) and the undead he spawns. Alex is able to slay the undead and make it to Asgarnia unharmed.
Chapter 10
Alex heads to the Borderworld to stop the source of the portal storms. Along the way he meets two new friends, Marshall and Ein, who help him destroy the source. Alex also befriends a pet headcrab and names it Otis. Side effects from Ein's spell to destroy the source of the portal storms leaves Alex with a debilitating headache. Shortly afterward, Ein's mis-direction of an exit portal lands them right in the clutches of Kronos, who promptly imprisons the three. Despite the headache, Alex and Otis manage to escape from the prison just in time to see the horrible execution of Ein's friend Amaya. Escaping the city through a zombie-filled harbor and onto the coast, Alex's HEV suit runs out of power. Ditching the suit to travel light, Alex heads into a nearby forest, where he finally meets up with Ein and Marshall. After a horrid transformation of Ein into a dragon and back to human, a friendly man opens up his home to the three. During their stay at the cabin, the Kandarian Sovereignty lays seige to the weakened city of Asgarnia. Achieving victory over the city in a mere seven hours, the city's shield spire collapses and explodes, contaminating the landscape with interdimensional energy. Leaving Ein and Otis behind, Alex journeys into the city with Marshall, where the two split up. Alex heads into the underground tunnels to find Issac Kleiner. Having left the cabin alone, Otis follows Alex on his journey. The two finally meet up with Dr. Kleiner. He and his fellow members of the Asgarnian Science Team are planning to form the core of the resistance movement against the now Kandarian occupied city. The story stops here and will continue in Chapter 11.
Post-Chapter 10
Alex, now outfitted with a new P.C.S. (Personal Combat System) suit, now proceeds in his suicidal task of evacuating oppressed citizens from a newly-managed Asgarnia.
Chapter 11
Eighteen months after the Seven-Hour War. Alex now leads the core of the rebellion resisting the oppressing Kandarinian Sovereignty (referred to as Kandies by Alex and other rebels). Alex was on a simple rescue mission when he was confronted by a group of golems. In a mishap at the conclusion of the battle, Alex was nearly fatally wounded. Caulus Zalridge came to him in a vision and told him to locate a person (or rather, imp) named Midna. After infiltrating the citadel as a spirit, Alex made a deal with Midna: she would resurrect him in exchange for helping her reclaim the Asgarnian throne. Unfortunately, Alex was not ready to confront the dark lord who had stolen Midna's throne, Damien Roth, and was easily overpowered. Once again near death, Midna grieved for Alex's defeat, feeling responsible for his fate. However, Alex survived, and Midna passed her magic prowess on to him. Upon the second confrontation, Alex was able to defeat Damien, though not permanently. After freeing the rebels, he and Midna returned to rebel base camp, where Alex was given an experimental telekinesis weapon. After Kandie presence in the area, Alex and Midna have been re-directed to the Mining district. However, during their escape Alex was attacked and bitten by a poison headcrab (not Otis). The crab itself killed by Midna, Alex now hangs between life and death. Through a hazed consciousness, Alex was unable to hear Midna's confession of her feelings towards him. What his fate will be is unknown, although he has resisted death twice previous.
Relationship with Midna
Alex may show feelings for Midna, though not as obvious as her feelings for him. It is obvious, however, that Alex is appreciative of Midna's act of resurrection.
Relationship with Ilia
One of the rebel scientists, Ilia Savant, soon found herself attracted to Alex, who began to grow uncomfortable with her flirtatious moves. He has hesitated to say much to Ilia, lest he anger Midna with jealousy.
Other
- He does not know where he was born, or who his parents were, as Caulus never told him before he died.
- He is ambidextrous.
