Velken
From DALpedia
Velkens are essentially anthropomorphic foxes that hail from the world of Welkin. Their fur is generally a rich silver color, which turns white about their muzzle and chest, and a dull black around their eyes, the tips of their lush fluffy tail, and usually their hand-like claws. Their triangular ears allow them excellent hearing. They are generally shorter and thinner than humans, their average height a little under five feet. They are generally reserved, quiet individuals not given to fits of anger or rage.
Velkens are all about speed and precision. All Velkens can self levitate with ease, an adaptation resulting from their floating island homeworld. They are extremely fast, generally appearing as mere blurs to human eyes. They easily give winged demons and angels a run for their money in the air, and are able to stop on a dime.
The magical abilities of Velkens are slightly above average at best, with the occasional exceptional magic user (much like the occasional exceptional human wizard). Apart from levitation, most magic using Velkens focus on elemental attacks.
Velkens are physically weak and frail. A few blows is all it is required to take even the strongest Velken out. Actually hitting them is another matter, however. They know their weakness and are very mindful of it. Their defense is their speed. In the time required for a bulky armored knight to swing a sword, a Velken Blade Knight can spin around to his opponent's backside and stab him.
Fighting Style
Velkens capitalize on their speed as their primary offense and rely heavily on teamwork and extreme discipline. Battles are usually fought using one of many attack formations that have been drilled into the warriors' minds as being the most effective for whatever situation they are in.
Though other Velken units exist, the most common units is generally comprised of ten to eight warriors plus one unit leader who is generally a specialist of some sort. These teams are normally comprised of an equal number of Blade Knights and Battle Mages.
Blade Knights wear light leather armor and carry short swords. They rarely slash with the blades, as they are generally not strong enough to do any damage. Instead they fight with short quick thrusts aimed at their enemies' weak points.
Battle Mages casts their spells as a group, weaving them together for added effect. A common tactic is to allow the Blade Knights to foray into an enemy group and cause mass confusion with their speed. The Blade Knights know exactly how long the Battle Mages take to prepare their spells, and jump out of the group at the very last instant as the Battle Mages lose their destructive spells.
Location
Velkens hail from Welkin, a dimension of endless sky and floating clouds. After the fall of Retan, their homeworld was destroyed and the entire population settled upon the Crimson Capital, christening their tiny nation New Welkin. Due to the floating nature of the island, they drift around the world and can rarely be found in a set location.
There are less than 150 Velkens in existence, and they all live in New Welkin. The majority are content to stay right there, as most of the rest of the world looks upon Velkens unfavorably due to their deeds while slaves to the Dark Empire.
