Geography
Asgarnia is a few miles east of the Glacia Mountain Range, and is in the temperate latitudes. It seldoms snows in Asgarnia, and average temperatures are mild to warm. Asgarnia is surrounded by a number of ponds, rivers and lakes that feed directly into the city because of artificial canals.
Utopian and Interdimensional Qualities
Asgarnia has long been held as one of the most highly developed cites on the Dark Continent because of the harnessing and utiliziation of a boundless energy supply that allows citizens to perform menial or difficult tasks with ease. The city is also home to a large group of scientists who have analyzed the sources of this energy and concluded it to be from another plane of existence; the Borderworld. A by-product of the energy is a portal leading directly to the Borderworld.
Portal Storms, Kandarin Attack, and Demise
At a certain point in time, the Borderworld energy eventually became so concentrated that it released itself in destructive bolts of lightning crashing down on the city. Alex bravely ventured into the Borderworld to locate the source of the storms and stop it. While he was successful, Asgarnia was left in a weakened state and was ripe for conquest by the Kandarinian Sovereignty.
Soon after the storms ceased, the Kandarin Sovereingty launched its assault on the crippled city, overpowering its military in a terrifyingly short amount of time, in what has come to be called "The Seven Hour War." By far the most destructive action by the Kandarin Sovereignty was the destruction of the city's shield spire that projected a projective energy dome that shrouded the city. The resulting explosion released extreme amounts of Borderworld energy upon the city and surrounding landscape. Buildings were leveled, walls were destroyed, and the landscape was contaminated with radioactive energy from the blast. All flora was crystallized, all fauna was mutated or killed, and all water was turned into a stagnant, toxic soup that did the former.
Kandarin Control
Soon after the defeat of the Asgarnian military, the Kandarins established their control over what was left of the city, much to the dismay of the surviving citizens. Opposed to the totalitarian intentions of the Sovereignty, some resorted to contribution of an underground rebellion led by the Asgarnian Science Team.
Uprising
At around post-Chapter 10 times, the lead scientists in Asgarnia's science division sought to find a way to repel the Kandarinian oppression. Their solution came in the form of a young man named Alex, who saw the city's shield spire detonate from afar, and ventured into the city to investigate the cause. Upon the discovery of the rebellion, Alex, having dealt with the Kandarinians before, did not hesitate to join the uprising. Under his influence, more headway towards victory had been made than ever before. After Alex's near death at the hands of Damien Roth in Chapter 12, the rebels, armed with a newfound fire for rebellion fueled by vengeance, overpowered the Kandarinian Citadel, forcing the remaining Kandies to pull out in late Chapter 13, headed back to Kandarin to regroup and rebuild.
Rebuilding the City
In the absence of enemy oppression, the population has taken it upon themselves to restore the city to its former Utopian glory. Despite widespread effects caused by Kandarinian influence, the people of Asgarnia are determined to rebuild their city, knowing it will take a long time to mend the city's wounds.
