Bats are mammals. Their most distinguishing feature is that their forelimbs are developed as wings. By emitting high-pitched sounds and listening to the echoes, bats locate prey and other nearby objects. Bats are active at night or at twilight. The social structure of bats varies, with some bats leading a solitary life and others living in caves colonized by more than a million bats.
